It’s all been a bit frantic but don’t worry if you’ve not been out for a ride yet…..
Here are a few ideas that you may or may not have considered before:-
Sign up for a Charity Ride/Sportive/Triathalon
While the London to Brighton Bike Ride is one of the most iconic events, there are plenty of others to choose from (if you don’t fancy the crush). If you’ve got a more competitive streak then a Triathalon or Duathalon (Run/Bike/Run) may be right up your street.
Ride out for a coffee or beer
Cycling and cake or biking and beer? If you give yourself a destination to aim for (especially with a nice reward), you can take advantage of the many traffic-free routes around town like Ebury Way and the Grand Union Canal. Here are some favourites:-
Bean Here Cafe (Hunton Bridge) – tucked between the A41 and M25, it’s a lovely hideaway with coffee and cake.
Cafe in the Park (Rickmansworth Aquadrome) – very popular and lots of bike parking, even a ‘quiet zone’ to escape to as well.
Bear on the Barge (Harefield) – great cocktails and lovely comfort food, it sits right on the Grand Union Canal.
Try a night ride
Riding through the woods at night adds a whole new dimension to your workout. Just make sure you’ve got off-road lights and a helmet (for those low hanging branches).
Buddy up/teach someone to ride
What’s better than going for a ride? Sharing it with someone that’s what! You’d be surprised how quickly the miles roll by when you’ve got a riding buddy. Even better, teach your children to ride or improve their skills. As they say, you never forget how to ride a bike!
Commute by bike
If you live and work in Watford this is entirely possible. With a little pre-planning you can even do it all year round (even when it’s cold and wet), however there’s no shame in waiting for a bit of sun.
